Technology and the low vision patient
While optical magnifiers have remained essentially unchanged over the decades, technology based solutions for the low vision patients are an ever-changing field. Technology solutions are becoming increasingly important, with more ‘ tech-savvy’ patients and the recent uptake of technology to maintain social inclusion and connections during pandemic. Mainstream technology proactively provides many possible solutions to both the consumer and to low vision focused companies seeking to adapt products for their patients. This lecture will cater for both new and experienced practitioners, with an overview of the technology market for low vision patients and updates on devices to assist patients experiencing vision loss.

Understand the various classes of Electric Vision Enhancement Systems (EVES)
Be aware of other technology based solutions for low vision patients, including head-borne devices, Optical Character Recognition units, haptic feedback options and the utilisation of mainstream technology
